Description
This is a chase
view driving game where the player drives a modified Ferrari F40
and races against time on the highways of the
U.S.A. from New York to Los Angeles through many other cities
along the way. This game is the sequel of Out Run & has
great gampelay that symbolizes the 2-D driving era. The feature
that Out Run has where there are forks in the road that offer a
choice in the player's route is not in this game. Instead, the
player has a turbo boost feature that is available as long as the
overheat meter hasn't reached the gray zone. The game takes a
decent amount of time to finish, and there are 3 stops that
are made where the player is given a choice to mod his car
further with a high power engine, high grip tires, or a more
powerful
turbo booster. This game was the first in the Out Run series to
feature dynamic weather conditions (rain, snow, and dust
storms). These bad weather areas have puddles of water of varying
size and ice/snow coated portions of the road. There are
also oil slicks on the road that catch fire when the fiery
exhaust from the turbo boost touches them. There are also objects
like construction gates, and more that are on the roads, which
the player can break through with his car. Mountain areas
have rough roads that slow the player down somewhat. Police cars
also show up and usually ram into the Ferrari & can cause
problems for the player. The stages take place at all times of
the day (day, sundown, evening, and late night). There are all
sorts of cars & trucks on the road that get in the player's
way, and the player will recognize Corvettes & Porsches as
well as
a rival in a convertible that takes the player's girl away. The
gameplay is excellent even though Sega should have used better
hardware.
