Description
This is a
vertically oriented shoot 'em up where the player controls an
insect character in a mushroom patch that has to shoot
at various bugs like the centipede that crawls from the top of
the screen down to the bottom where the player is. There is also
a spider that floats near the bottom of the screen, a shelled bug
that drops straight down creating more mushrooms, and
other enemy insects (like snails) that show up that go
horizontally across the upper portion of the screen. The
centipede
creates a mushroom when the player shoots it in the head &
its next body segment becomes its new head. It splits in 2
when the player shoots at one of its body segments. The centipede
crawls the fastest around mushrooms. The player has
the ability to move up and down to a certain extent to avoid the
bugs & the centipede when it gets to the same level as the
player. This game utilizes a trackball as its primary controller.
In Caterpillar, the playfield is a berry garden instead, and the
spider is replaced by a fly. In Mill Pac, the centipede is made
up of a bunch of ghosts from Pac-Man instead, and the
playfield has clovers instead of mushrooms. Magic Worm also has
different graphics than the other versions. The playfield in
that version is made up of apples, and the player controls a ship
instead of an insect.
